COLLECTOR QUALITY 1874-S HALF EAGLE
As with many of the post-Civil War half eagles from this facility, the 1874-S is a scarce and much undervalued issue. There an estimated 100-125 known, mostly in the VF-EF range. This date remains unknown in Uncirculated and it is seldom seen above AU53 to AU55.
This is a crusty example with natural deep, dirty russet color over choice, unmolested surfaces. As is typical for the issue, the mintmark is very small and not boldly impressed but it is clearly visible.
No PCGS EF40 1874-S half eagle with CAC approval has ever sold at auction.
For under $2,000 this coin offers the collector a lot of bang for the buck.
