SUPERB CONDITION CENSUS 1850-C HALF EAGLE, EX ELIASBERG

Sharp Mintmark.

Viewed as a date, the 1850-C is among the more available half eagles from this mint. There are as many as a dozen known in Uncirculated two or three distinct coins in PCGS MS63 and a single piece in MS64 ex Milas/Bareford/Atwater that sold for a stunning $46,200 back in May, 1995.

This coin has been off the market for over a decade and I have handled it three timessince the early 1990's. It is frosty and well defined with a sharply impressed mintmark; some examples of this date have a faint C. Probably the best feature on this piece is its glowing rich orange-gold color which is seen on both sides. A few scuffs limit the grade but this is a solid coin for the grade.

The last PCGS MS63 to sell brought $18,213 as Stacks Bowers 4/13: 1321. It was not CAC approved and was not nearly as choice as the present specimen.

A marvelous blend of beauty, rarity and provenance in one package!

Ex Bowers and Merena October 1982 sale at $3,575; earlier in the famous Louis Eliasberg collection.
