RARE COLLECTOR GRADE 1842-O HALF EAGLE
The 1842-O is the second rarest New Orleans half eagle after the 1847-O. There are fewer than 100 known to exist and most are in lower grades.
This pieced is housed in an old green label holder and it shows the sharpness of VF30 save for two small defects in the inner left obverse field. The color is a pleasing natural russet and this date is very seldom seen with natural color.
Another OGH PCGS VF20 example of this date sold for $2,300 as Heritage 8/11: 5516; it had a major rim nick.
A nice example of this hard-to-find issue and the best available quality at under $3,000.
