A total of 5,750 business strike 1862 Three Dollar gold pieces were made and this issue has a low survival rate due to its Civil War issuance. It is scarcer than the 1861 and 1863 and comparable in overall rarity to the 1864.
Unlike so many examples of this date, this lustrous example has never been cleaned or processed and its lightly worn surfaces are cleaner than normal.
