GEM 1853 QUARTER EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

The 1853 quarter eagle is common in grades up through MS63 but it is scarce in MS64 and rare finer than this.

This fresh-to-the-market example is notable for its scintillating fiery orange-gold color which is visible on both sides. The underlying surfaces are very frosty and appear to be totally natural. A few small scuffs separate this from a higher grade but this piece has exceptional overall eye appeal.

The last PCGS/CAC MS64+ 1853 quarter eagle to sell at auction brought $4,113 as Heritage 10/16: 4366.

This would make a spiffy type coin for the collector seeking a single high grade pre-Civil War date for this long-lived issue.

CAC has approved 15 in MS64/64+ with 5 higher.
