The 1847-O is comparable to the 1846-O quarter eagle in terms of its overall and high grade rarity. While the population figures for this date in AU55 seem high most are very low end, as evidenced by the very low acceptance rate by CAC.
This choice example has deep natural green-gold color over surfaces which are clean and lustrous. The reverse is rotated 90 degrees which makes this piece, technically, a mint error.
Only one PCGS AU55 has sold at auction since 2004 and no CAC approved AU55 from either service has ever been sold at auction.
An interesting and cosmetically appealing New Orleans quarter eagle.
