CHOICE, ORIGINAL 1846-D QUARTER EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

Variety 7-I.

The 1846-D is among the most available Dahlonega quarter eagles. This date is easy to locate in the lower AU grades but it is not often seen with natural color and fresh surfaces.

This fresh-to-the-market example appears to have never been cleaned or lightened and it shows deep, even green-gold color with plenty of dirt caked into the recesses. The strike is sharp, the surfaces are clean and the eye appeal is far above for the grade.

No "straight graded" PCGS AU50 1846-D quarter eagle has sold at auction since April 2011 and no CAC approved AU50 from either service has crossed the block.

A wonderful coin for the finicky collector.

CAC has approved just this one piece in AU50 with 6 finer.
