POPULAR 1906-O EAGLE GRADED MS63 BY PCGS
The 1906-O is the third scarcest New Orleans in the popular "short set" of New Orleans eagles struck between 1888 and 1906. It is not often seen in grades above MS62 and MS63 examples are about as nice as this issue can usually be seen.
This is an especially frosty and well-made example with velvety surfaces overlaid with rich soft orange-gold color. A few mint-made grease spots appear on the obverse with the most noticeable covering the eleventh star.
Three PCGS MS63 1906-O eagles have sold at auction since March 2014. One brought $3,995 in 2016 (it was very low end), one brought $4,700 in late 2015 and one realized $4,950 in 2014.
For most collectors, this 1906-O will represent the most sensible quality for this popular final-year-of-issue date.
