1880-CC EAGLE WITH NATURAL COLORATION
The 1880-CC eagle is only marginally scarce in the lower AU grades but the pieces I generally see are bright and severely lacking in eye appeal.
This dirty gold example was probably repatriated from Europe at one time and it is uncommonly original with deep colors over lustrous surfaces. A few ticks on the cheek are likely all that is keeping this cosmetically appealing coin from an AU55 grade and a $6,000+ price tag.
Only two PCGS AU55 1880-CC eagles have sold at auction since the end of 2011 and the last brought $3,878 as Heritage 7/16: 3878.
