CHOICE AU 1881-CC EAGLE

Variety 1-A.

The 1881-CC is the most common Carson City eagle made before 1890. It is moderately scarce in the higher AU grades and it is rare in full Mint State.

This coin is housed in an old green label holder and it appears to be nearly Uncirculated by today's standards. There is nearly full luster seen below medium russet and yellow-gold color while the detail is excellent for a CC eagle from this era.

Only one PCGS AU55 1881-CC eagle has sold at auction since May 2007 and it realized $2,703 as Heritage 4/15: 6297.

A PCGS 58 example of this popular issue would cost around $5,000 and it likely wouldn't have the eye appeal which this coin shows.
