PCGS/CAC AU58 1849-D GOLD DOLLAR

Variety 1-A.

The 1849-D is numismatically significant as the first gold dollar to be produced at the Dahlonega mint. It is the single most available coin from this facility but properly graded AU58's with nice color and unadulterated surfaces have become difficult to locate.

This lustrous "slider" is exactly what you want an AU58 coin to look like: well detailed, very lustrous and with minimal wear confined to the high spots.

Only two PCGS AU58 1849-D gold dollars have sold at auction since 2010 and the last example to cross the block was a non-CAC piece which realized $3,525 as Heritage 6/16: 5199.

Here is a perfect Type One type coin for the beginning Dahlonega gold collector searching for that perfect first gold dollar.

CAC has approved 5 in this grade with 10 finer.
