CHOICE AU 1803/2 HALF EAGLE

BD-1, R-4.

No "perfect date" half eagles dated 1803 are known and there are four die varieties for this year, all overdates. The 1803/2 is an available date in the Bust Right series and it is available in grades up to MS63/MS64. Nice AU58 pieces are always in demand due to their appearance and price point.

This slider is characterized by considerable luster and pleasing natural lemon-gold color which deepens to a medium reddish-gold on the reverse. The strike is typical for the date with some minor weakness seen at the centers but this doesn't severely impact the overall appearance. There is a shallow old line in the Liberty Cap which may actually be mint-made.

The last PCGS AU58 1803/2 half eagle to sell at auction was another non-CAC example which realized $13,513 as Heritage 4/16: 4777.

This is a really pleasing Bust Right half eagle which should appeal to a variety of collectors.
