NGC/CAC AU58 1800 HALF EAGLE

BD-2, R-3. Blunt 1 in date.

As the final 18th century half eagle, the 1800 receives much attention from early gold collectors and type specialists alike. It is a comparatively easy date to locate but it is not often seen choice and very often has been dipped or processed.

This lustrous slider is notable for its rich natural golden-orange coloration and its very sharp overall detail. Many 1800 half eagles are weak at the centers but this early die state shows nearly complete definition. There are no serious marks noted and no adjustment marks or rim issues.

Two CAC approved AU58 1800 half eagles have found buyers at auction in 2016. Stacks Bowers sold a PCGS coin as 2016 ANA: 3246 for $13,513 while Heritage sold an NGC for $14,100 as Heritage 2/16: 3372.

Nice Capped Bust Right half eagles with CAC approval are always in demand and when I am able to offer them, they generally sell very quickly.

CAC has approved 20 in this grade with 27 finer.
