Variety 1, perfect reverse die.
The 1855-C is a slightly scarcer date in the Charlotte half eagle series which is extremely difficult to locate in collector grades with choice surfaces and natural color.
This green-goldexample shows a slightly reddish undertone when it enters a light source and this is not uncommon for this date. The strike is rather sharp for the issue and the surfaces are especially choice save for an old, hidden scrape between stars seven and eight.
Only two PCGS EF45 1855-C half eagles have sold at auction since early 2008 and neither was choice; they realized $2,056 and $2,115, respectively.
