UNDERRATED 1851 HALF EAGLE IN PCGS/CAC MS61
While common in circulated grades, the 1851 is scarce and underrated in Uncirculated. There are likely fewer than 20 in Mint State with most in the MS60 to MS62 range.
This frosty green-gold example is well struck and very frosty with light scuffs in the fields consistent with the assigned grade. The color is rich and even leaving no doubt that this attractive piece has never been lightened or processed.
No CAC approved MS61 1851 half eagle has ever sold at auction. The last PCGS MS61 brought $2,300 as DLRC 3/16: 798 and it wasn't close to this coin in terms of quality.
A great value for the savvy collector who appreciates true rarity at an affordable price.
CAC has approved four in this grade with three finer.
