ATTRACTIVE PCGS/CAC 1851-C HALF EAGLE

Variety 1; the "earring variety" with a small, mint-made punchmark on Liberty's ear lobe.

While common in terms of overall rarity, the 1851-C is among the more difficult Charlotte half eagles to locate with choice surfaces and a natural appearance.

This is a very fresh example with nice natural light to medium orange-gold coloration over very clean surfaces. The strike is typical for the date with some slight weakness on the hair of Liberty and the corresponding reverse while the borders are crisply defined.

A slightly inferior PCGS/CAC EF45 sold for $2,585 as Heritage 2/14: 5286.

This is great value for the specialist at less than $3,000.

CAC has approved four in this grade with five finer.
