NICE PCGS/CAC EF40 1851-C HALF EAGLE

Variety 1 with an "earring" in Liberty's earlobe.

The 1851-C is a median scarcity issue in the Charlotte half eagle series but it is rare in higher grades and with choice, natural surfaces. Only a small percentage of the coins in EF holders are "CAC-worthy."

This is a textbook coin for the grade with good detail below deep, natural green-gold color. The surfaces are extremely clean with no detracting marks and I could see this piece in a 45 holder.

No PCGS 40's have sold at auction since the Summer of 2008 and the last PCGS/CAC EF45 to sell at auction brought $2,585 in February 2014 but wasn't as choice as the present example.

CAC has approved 3 in this grade with 5 finer.
