AFFORDABLE CAC APPROVED 1837 HALF EAGLE
Block 8, Large Date.
Although it is little recognized by collectors, the 1837 is a far scarcer date than the other Philadelphia Classic Head half eagles (save for the 1834 Crosslet 4).
This is a very choice example with deep, even russet colors adhering to undisturbed surfaces which have not been tampered with. A clump of dirt can be seen in the claws on the reverse.
No CAC approved AU53 1837 half eagle has sold at auction in recent years.
A nicer coin than many I have seen in AU55 holders and the best available quality for less than $2,000.
CAC has approved 3 in this grade with 27 finer.
