RARE COLLECTOR GRADE 1862-S EAGLE

The 1862-S is one of the rarest eagles made at the San Francisco mint. An estimated 50-60 are known from an original mintage of 12,500 and this date is expensive and nearly unavailable in higher grades.

While well worn, this is a cosmetically appealing example with even wear, natural color and enough detail to suggest a 15 or 20 grade. The surfaces are very clean with no appreciable marks or recent cleaning(s).

A vastly inferior NGC F12 without CAC approval realized $3,055 as Heritage 3/14: 30364.

This is the best available quality for this issue as under $5,000.

CAC has approved one in this grade and three finer for a total of four in all.
