CONDITIONALLY SCARCE PCGS/CAC MS63 1906-O EAGLE
The 1906-O is numismatically interesting as the final year of issue for New Orleans Liberty Head eagles. It is the third scarcest of the late dates from this mint, after the 1899-O and the 1897-O. It is scarce in MS63, rare in MS64 and very rare in Gem.
This very choice example has few marks and nice natural rose-gold and orange color. If it were a common date like a 1901-S it would likely be graded MS64 as the surfaces are choice and vibrant.
The last two MS63 examples of this date with CAC approval were NGC graded and they brought $7,050 as Heritage 1/14: 6944 and $6,463 as Heritage 4/13: 5935.
I recently sold another PCGS/CAC MS63 1906-O eagle and was surprised at how many inquiries I received. This is clearly a popular coin and MS63 seems like a sensible grade for many collectors.
CAC has approved 11 in this grade with 6 finer.
