SCARCE PCGS AU53 1851-C HALF EAGLE

The 1851-C is a much scarcer date in the Charlotte half eagle series. It is rare in properly graded AU55, and nice AU58 coins are very seldom offered for sale. In Uncirculated, there are no more than five or six known.

In my opinion, this is a high-end AU55 to AU58 this has been net graded on account of some marks on the obverse. This includes two short gashes on the truncation right over the 5 in the date. Lots of luster is still present below rich natural yellow-gold coloration and the detail is very sharp for the issue.

This exact coin (see below) is the sole PCGS AU53 example of this date to sell at auction since early 2014.
