NICE CAC APPROVED NGC EF40 1882-CC $5.00
The 1882-CC is the most available pre-1890 half eagle from the fabled Carson City mint. It is not often seen in grades lower than AU50 as it tended not to see a significant amount of local circulation.
In my opinion, this dirty original example with much underlying luster seen under natural colors grades a full EF45.
No CAC approved EF40 example has sold at auction. The last non-CAC EF40 to sell brought $3,120 in 2/2025; it was a nice PCGS coin.
A lot of coin for not a lot of dough.
CAC has approved five in this grade with 134 finer.
