LOVELY CHOICE AU58 1850-C $5.00, GRADED AU58 BY PCGS/CAC

The 1850-C is among the more available Charlotte half eagles. It is scarce in properly graded AU58, and it is rare in Uncirculated.

I simply see no wear on this coin. I do see bag friction—especially on the high spots on the obverse and I understand why this is in a 58 holder and not in a 61. The yellow-gold color is natural and there is a bunch of original mint luster parked on both sides. And the mintmark is sharp and full; an important consideration for this date.

There are a total of three APRs for the 1850-C half eagle in PCGS/CAC AU58, including this exact coin (see below). The other two were for $8,700 in 8/2022, and $8,400 in 11/2019.

A great coin for a collector working on a seven-mint Liberty Half eagle set.

CAC has approved seven in this grade with just five finer (four in 58 and one in 62).
