The 1876-CC is the second most available Type Two double eagle from this mint after the 1875-CC. It has become hard to locate examples which grade AU58 and which have choice original surfaces and natural color.
This frosty “slider” shows rich natural orange-gold hues with contrasting deeper color on the relief details. It has minimal wear but it does show a number of bagmarks from being transported loose from bank to bank. The color and luster which this coin displays give it very good eye appeal for the grade.
The last NGC 58 example of this date to sell at auction was a CAC approved piece, ex Heritage 1/14: 7143, which realized a strong $10,575.
A Mint State 1876-CC, if available, would cost close to double the price and might not have the pleasing appearance which this coin possesses.
