The 1876-CC is one of the more common Carson City double eagles of any date and it is readily available in nearly any circulated grade. It is numismaically significant as the final year in which the Type Two double eagle was produced and it is one of just seven issues from this mint with this reverse design.
This fresh to the market example was recently repatriated from Europe nd it shows very pleasing medium green-gold color with a good deal of remaining mint luster. There are just a few too many ticks in the obverse fields to assign a higher grade but this piece has better overall eye appeal than many CC double eagles I see in AU55–and even AU58–holders.
As I mentioned above, this is a common issue but with the current high level of demand for CC double eagles, nice 1876-CC’s are becoming harder and harder to locate.
