The 1875-CC is the most available Type Two double eagle from the Carson City mint and it is among the more available CC double eagles from this facility. It is readily available in nearly all circulated grades.
This piece is quite lustrous for an EF45 with enough “meat” to suggest a slightly higher grade. It is lightly marked and evenly worn with good overall eye appeal for the date and grade.
The last auction record for an EF45 was Heritage 11/23/12: 24458, graded by NGC and not approved by CAC, which brought $2,703.
Just three years ago, 1875-CC double eagles in this grade were available at less than $2,000. This market has performed very well in the last few years and it should continue to do so as demand is steady.
CAC has approved eight in this grade with 61 finer.
