NICE AU 1874-CC DOUBLE EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

The 1874-CC is the third most available Carson City Type Two double eagle after the 1875-CC and the 1876-CC but it is much scarcer than these two dates, especially in higher grades. The 1874-CC becomes hard to locate in properly graded AU53 to AU55 and it is legitimately scarce in AU58.

This is a choice, wholesome example with enough luster and original skin to not look out of place in a 55 holder. It is well detailed and shows light rose and orange-gold color with a deepening of the hues seen at the upper reverse. The surfaces show numerous small ticks but none are deep or detracting.

NO CAC AU53 1874-CC double eagle has sold at auction. A nice NGC AU53 just realized $7,050 as Stacks Bowers 3/16: 14364. and average quality non-CAC AU53 examples of this date trade in the $5,500-6,500 range.

This is the nicest AU53 1874-CC double eagle I have seen n some time and at this price point it represents unimprovable quality.

CAC has approved nine in this grade with 22 finer.
