The 1869-S is a fairly available Type Two double eagles which becomes scarce in properly graded AU58 and rare in Mint State.
This choice, original example is high end for the grade with nice natural orange-gold and greenish color. The obverse is lustrous; the reverse is a bit deeper in hue with some rose-gold tinges.
A near-twin to this coin, also graded AU55 by PCGS and approved by CAC, brought $2,702 as Heritage 3/13: 24378.
CAC has approved six in this grade with 13 finer.
