The 1865 is far more available than its Civil War counterparts the 1862, 1863 and 1864 but it is quite a bit harder to locate than the 1861. It is usually seen in EF40-AU50 or, on occasion, in MS62 to MS64 as a result of a hoard.
This pleasing original example shows nice rich reddish-gold and orange color. It is very lustrous and lightly worn with choice surfaces and good eye appeal. A small, faint mint-made grease stain on the reverse can be seen at the base of the ICA in AMERICA.
The last NGC AU55 example with CAC approval to sell at auction brought $4,113 as Heritage 3/14: 5521
CAC has approved two in this grade with 44 finer.
