POPULAR 1861-S DOUBLE EAGLE
The Normal Reverse 1861-S double eagle is popular with collectors due to its Civil War issuance. It is fairly common in lower AU grades but it is not easy to find in AU55 to AU58 and it is rare in Uncirculated.
This lustrous, lightly abraded example is fresh to the market and it shows light rose and yellow-gold color. It is clean for the grade, lightly worn and very appealing.
The last non-CAC PCGS AU55 1861-S double eagle to sell at auction realized $3,878 as Heritage 11/15: 3614. It had two detracting marks on the reverse.
Good value at under $4,000 and an issue which is always popular with a variety of collectors.
