The 1858-S is comparable to the 1859-S and 1860-S double eagle but it is slightly more available in the EF45 to AU55 grade range. It is fairly available in the lower AU grades but most of the coins which I see in 50 and 53 holders are bright, unappealing and heavily abraded.
This fresh example was sourced in Europe and it shows medium green-gold color with some rose and orange shadings in the devices. The fields are extremely clean with no detracting marks. As is common for the issue, the rims show a distinctive bevelled appearance.
The last APR for an 1858-S double eagle in AU53 is $3,290 for a PCGS coin that was sold as Heritage 8/12: 4729.
