The 1843 is one of the most available No Motto half eagles. It is very easy to locate in all circulated grades and can be found in MS60 to MS61. It becomes scarce in properly graded MS62 to MS63 and it is very rare in anything above this range.
This is an exceptional coin for the grade with gorgeous deep green and orange-gold colors that change to a subdued reddish hue in the fields. The strike is absolutely hammered and the luster is frosty in texture. A few shallow scuffs in the left obverse field and hard to see without a glass and there is an extremely shallow mint-made planchet flaw adjoing the chin of Liberty. The reverse gradesw at least a point finer.
The last 1843 half eagle in NGC MS62 to sell at auction was Heritage 2/10: 1575, which brought $2,530. That coin was not CAC approved and it was not nearly as choice or original as the current example.
If you are looking for a truly original No Motto Liberty Head half eagle and your budget is in the $3,000-4,000, this coin is exactly right for you!
