CHOICE AU 1837 HALF EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL
The 1837 is the scarcest Philadelphia Classic Head half eagle except for the 1834 Crosslet 4. It is not often seen in the higher About Uncirculated grades and even less with natural color and choice surfaces.
This choice slider example has pleasing natural russet hues with deeper color at the borders than the centers. There is just a slight amount of friction on the high spots and it is likely that this attractive 1837 half eagle saw very little actual circulation.
The last PCGS/CAC 1837 half eagle to sell at auction realized $4,113 as Heritage 1/14: 6620.
CAC has approved seven in this grade with 12 finer.
