NICE SLIDER 1806 HALF EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

BD-6, R-2.

The 1806 Round Top 6 is the more common of the two varieties of 1806 half eagle; the scarcer variety has a Pointed 6 and stars arranged 8×5. The 1806 is one of the most available dates in the Capped Bust Right series and it is available in grades up to MS64/65. Most circulated examples have been cleaned or processed and only a small percentage of those graded AU58 are worthy of approval by CAC.

This example is fresh-to-the-market and it is a textbook “slider” with just a hint of friction on the obverse high spots and a strictly Uncirculated reverse. Both sides show considerable frosty luster and there is nice natural green-gold color with some reddish high spot accents on the reverse. A few scuffs can be seen in the right obverse field but this is a really good looking coin which blows away most seen in AU58 holders.

Only two PCGS AU58′s have sold at auction since 2007 (neither approved by CAC) and the last trade was Stacks Bowers 9/13: 3397 which realized $10,281.

This is a perfect coin for the fussy type collector and it should be pointed out that PCGS/CAC early gold is currently in very strong demand but with very limited supply.

CAC has approved 10 with 54 finer.
