The 1882-CC is the most available Carson City half eagle struck prior to 1890. It is moderately scarce in the higher AU grades and rare in the lower Uncirculated grades. Many collectors prefer a nice AU55 or AU58 given the high price levels accorded Mint State pieces.

This lightly worn example shows medium orange-gold color on the obverse and reverse. The strike is a bit better than average for the date with good detail seen at the centers and borders. There are a few small ticks in the fields but none are worthy of mention.

The only PCGS AU55 example to sell at auction in the past two years is ex Teletrade 4/13: 2694, which sold for $2,820; this coin was not approved by CAC. The last CAC approved 1882-CC to sell at auction was a PCGS coin offered as Heritage 8/11: 5553 which brought $2,300.

CAC has approved seven in this grade with 16 finer.
