Sharp Mintmark.
The majority of 1854-C half eagles in AU50 and above show a weak mintmark and sharp mintmark coins, such as this one, are extremely scarce and among the most difficult half eagles from this mint to locate.
The obverse is mostly a light green-gold hue while the reverse is deeper with some reddish-gold and russet shadings near the rim. The strike is a bit weak at the centers but the all important mintmark is bold and there are traces of luster seen on both sides.
There are no recent auction records for an AU50 Sharp C from either PCGS or NGC.
If you collect Charlotte half eagles, you are likely aware of the rarity of examples of the 1854-C half eagle with boldly rendered mintmarks.
CAC has approved just three in this grade with none finer.
