The 1850-C is one of the more available Charlotte half eagles. This makes it an affordable and practical choice for inclusion in a type set or allows the collector on a budget to splurge a bit and look for a higher graded example than some of the other scarcer issues.
This piece is well detailed and evenly worn with distinctive natural reddish color at the upper obverse; the reverse is a lighter medium green-gold. The strike is sharp and there are no major abrasions seen in the fields.
Surprisingly, there have been no auction records for a PCGS AU50 1850-C half eagle since Heritage 1/05: 9004, which brought $3,220.
Here is a perfect Charlotte half eagle for the type collector searching for an affordable but higher quality piece for his set.
CAC has approved just two in this grade and only one finer than this.
