The 1847-C half eagle is a relatively available coin in lower grades but it becomes scarce in AU55 and in AU58, with natural color and choice surfaces, it is quite rare.

This lovely example shows totally original medium to deep green-gold color on the obverse and the reverse. The strike is razor sharp with no weakness at the centers or borders while the surfaces are extremely choice with just a few small scuffs seen in the fields. This piece likely never entered circulation as it shows no real wear and it is exceptionally clean for the issue. I have not seen many 1847-C half eagles which compare favorably with this choice piece.

No CAC approved AU58 example of this date has ever sold at auction. An NGC AU58 which was lustrous but clearly dipped brought $4,406 as Heritage 4/14: 6368.

To find a nicer 1847-C half eagle, you’d have to spend $10,000+ for a truly Uncirculated piece. This coin is perfect for type purposes or for an advanced date collection of half eagles from this mint.

CAC has approved two in this grade with five finer.
