The 1858 gold dollar is an easy issue to locate in the lower Uncirculated grades but it is scarce in MS64 and rare in Gem.
This near-Gem has great luster and very pleasing color. It is sharply struck and attractive with just a few small ticks in the fields removing it from consideration at a higher grade.
The last PCGS MS64 1858 gold dollar to sell at auction was Heritage 2/11: 4307 which brought $1,725. It was not approved by CAC.
How can you not like a 150+ year old gold coin in this state of preservation for less than $2,000?
CAC has approved six in this grade with eight finer.
