The 1852-O quarter eagle is rare in properly graded Uncirculated with an estimated 12-15 known. Most are in the MS60 to MS62 range and this date is unavailable above MS63.
This frosty example shows nice medium orange-gold and greenish colors with some deeper reddish hues within the border beads from 3:00 to 5:00 on the obverse. The strike is very sharp with almost no weakness at the centers and a few scattered ticks in the obverse fields narrowly remove this coin from consideration at the MS62 level.
After some serious neglect, I note renewed interest in the New Orleans quarter eagle series, especially for nice CAC-approved examples.
CAC has approved four in this grade with none finer.
