The 1848-D is one of the more available Dahlonega quarter eagles both in terms of overall and high grade rarity. It is seen most often in EF40 to AU53 grades and while more available in the higher AU grades than most issues from this mint, it is becoming harder to locate.
This bright, lustrous example shows light golden-yellow color and it is reasonably well struck for the issue. There is some minor wear seen on the high spots while the surfaces are comparatively free of serious scuffs.
The last three auction records for this date in AU58 are $3,738; this represents two coins graded by PCGS and one by NGC. All three records date from 2010 and none have crossed the block since then.
