The 1847-C is the most common quarter eagle from this mint, making it an excellent date for type purposes. It is relatively available in EF and AU grades but it is becoming hard to locate with natural color and surfaces.
This russet-gold example is well detailed and shows pleasing natural color with the reverse deeper in hue than the obverse. There are a few small ticks in the fields and a small rim bump at 12:00 on the reverse.
The last two auction records for non-CAC AU53 examples graded by PCGS are Bonham’s 6/14: 1084 at $2,574 and Heritage 9/13: 5067 at $2,820.
One of the nicer Charlotte quarter eagles which you will find priced below $3,000.
