Variety 1.

The 1841-C is a scarcer early date from this mint. There are likely no more than 100-125 known most of which are well worn. Properly graded AU55′s are scarce and examples which are original and clean are legitimately rare.

This fresh example is among the more original circulated 1841-C quarter eagles which I have seen or offered for sale. It shows attractive even green-gold color which is totally correct for the date. The strike is sharp and the surfaces are clean with none of the usual marks. Some luster can be seen below the aforementioned color. I doubt if more than a dozen finer 1841-C quarter eagles are known.

The last PCGS AU55 to sell at auction brought $3,738 as Heritage 10/10: 20932. An NGC AU55 with CAC approval sold for $4,025 as Heritage 2/10: 1455. The present example is nicer than that coin, in my opinion.

I have seen AU58 examples of this date with less eye appeal than this coin and it would make a stellar addition to a choice set of Charlotte quarter eagles.

CAC has approved three in this grade with two finer.
