The 1906-O eagle is numismatically significant as it is the final year in which this denomination was produced at the New Orleans mint. It is available in the lowest Uncirculated grades but it is very scarce in properly graded MS63 and rare above this.
This clean, satiny example has medium natural yellow-gold color with some slight darkening in the fields. The 1906-O is typically seen with lots and lots of detracting abrasions but this example is only moderately marked and it represents really high quality for the date and grade.
The last NGC MS63 1906-O eagle with CAC approval to sell at auction was Heritage 4/13: 5935 which brought $6,463. A non-CAC PCGS MS63 brought $5,750 as Stacks Bowers 2011 ANA: 9622.
I have handled just one finer 1906-O eagle in close to five years.
