The 1899-O is the scarcest post-1883 eagle from the New Orleans mint. It is hard to find in properly graded MS62, scarce in MS63 and rare in MS64 and above.
This nice frosty example is lightly marked and it shows some pleasing natural orange-gold color. There are just a few too many tiny marks in the obverse fields to grade this higher but it is clearly a nicer example than most I have seen in MS62 holders.
Auction records as high as $2,585 exist for non-CAC 1899-O eagles in PCGS MS62 (cf. HA 1/13: 7388) and no recent auction records exist for examples in MS62 with CAC approval.
A nice PCGS MS63, if available, would bring over $6,000, making this choice MS62 a very good value for the savvy New Orleans eagle collector.
CAC has approved six in this grade with nine finer.
