The 1894-O is one of the harder late date New Orleans eagles to find. It is generally seen in AU and the lowest Uncirculated grades. Properly graded MS62′s are scarce and this date is rare in MS^3 and very rare finer.
This satiny example is very high end for the grade and it lacks the typical scattered abrasions in the fields. There are a few grease stains on the obverse which appear as tiny dark spots but this piece has great overall eye appeal.
The last PCGS MS62 to sell at auction brought $2,056 as Heritage 6/13: 5818. No CAC approved MS62 has ever been sold at auction.
CAC has approved seven in this grade with just two finer.
