While not as scarce as the 1882-CC, the 1883-CC is a much harder date to find than the 1884-CC. Despite this, it doesn’t command the premium in higher grades that it should.
This attractive ‘slider” shows rich natural orange-gold color with some subtle rose and greenish undertones primarily on the obverse. Both sides are lustrous; the obverse has some minor friction on the cheek of Liberty while the reverse is free of noticeable wear. There are a few small ticks in the left obverse field and some minor scrapes on the cheek.
There were only two PCGS AU58′s sold at auction in 2012 and they brought $5,587 and $5,606. The last APR for an 1883-CC $20.00 was for an NGC coin which sold for $6,191 in Heritage’s November 2012 auction.
A nice coin for the grade and an issue which should remain in strong demand for the foreseeable future.
