Variety 1. Normal date.

The 1860-C is the second to last half eagle from this mint. Only 14,813 were struck and this issue is seen most often in the EF40 to AU50 range. It uses the reverse of 1859 which is notable for its “raw,” unfinished appearance and it is graded solely by the sharpness displayed on the obverse.

This is a choice, attractive example with some luster clinging to medium yellow-gold and greenish surfaces. Unlike most 1860-C half eagles, this piece is not peppered with small, detracting abrasions and the few visible marks are scattered and shallow.

The last slabbed AU50 example with CAC approval was ex DLRC 9/13 and this PCGS graded coin brought $4,275. An NGC AU50 without CAC approval brought $3,525 as Heritage 1/13: 7217.

CAC has approved two in this grade with seven finer.
