The 1852-C is one of the most common Charlotte half eagles, which makes it perfect for a type collector. It is not hard to find in EF grades but probably fewer than 10% of the remaining coins in this range have original color and choice surfaces.
This is a “textbook” EF40 with pleasing russet and green-gold color, no detracting marks and some dirt seen in the protected areas.
A virtual twin of this coin, ex Goldberg 2/12: 1534 and graded EF40 by PCGS (with CAC approval) realized $2,300.
A perfect coin for the collector just dipping his toe in the waters of southern branch mint gold.
CAC has approved two in this grade with 23 finer.
