Variety 10-G. Medium D.

The 1843-D is one of the most common half eagles from this mint and it is clearly the most available issue from the 1840′s. It is most available in EF40 to AU53 grades but it is not often seen with natural color and surfaces.

This deep green-gold example is well detailed and very pleasing to the naked eye. There are a few splashes of reddish color on the obverse while the reverse has a considerable amount of dirt in the recesses of the lettering. A few old marks in the left obverse field and at the bridge of Liberty’s nose limit the grade but this piece is truly high end for the grade.

The last PCGS AU50 example of this date to sell at auction was ex Goldberg 2/12: 1498 which brought $2,875; it was not approved by CAC.

This coin is perfect for the collector who would like to own one single high quality Dahlonega half eagle with above-average surfaces and natural coloration.

CAC has approved two in this grade with nine finer.
